They made the call Monday in Abuja while briefing newsmen in response to the allegations of electoral irregularities in the April 11 elections in the state made by one of the two leading contending gubernatorial candidates, Senator Aisha Alhassan of the All Progressive Congress party (APC).
Some of the organizations include: Women’s Right Advancement and Protection Alternative (WRAPA), Civil Resource Development and Documentation Center (CIRDDOC), Women in Politics Forum (WiP), Nigerian Women Trust Fund (NWTF), among others.
They said the people of Taraba and all Nigerians are demanding that the right to vote is protected by INEC, the political parties and all other stakeholders, adding “The loss of life and injury is totally unacceptable and we call on the security agencies to remain impartial and protect the populace, as that is their primary duty and responsibility.”
 Secretary General of WRAPA, Mrs Saudatu Mahdi, said Sen Alhassan has blazed a trail for women in politics and there is a strong symbolism for the emancipation of Nigerian women and girls in her winning a genuine contest.
She also urged INEC to set aside the erroneous declaration of inconclusive results for Taraba State, implying that the results in some local governments were impacted by irregularities.
Mahdi added that a valid fresh, transparent election was needful in the controversial 16 local governments and all polling units across the state.
