The call was made in Abuja during an event by the group to mark the ‘Girls in ICT Day’ NIWIIT explained that celebration of Girls in ICT Day’ is aimed at exposing opportunities in the ICT sector and providing girls and young women with the knowledge that career in ICT can enable them achieve their future dreams.
The Public Relation Officer of NIWIIT, Hauwa Yahaya Abubakar, said the event was to celebrate and create mentorship for the young, upcoming girls in ICT and promote the education and training of girls in primary and secondary schools to empower them at an early stage.
Abubakar said it was discovered that most girls were not into the sciences and that it was becoming a problem.
“The best way to approach the problem is to sensitise the students and tell them what it entails to change their perception on science,” she said.
