Women In Politics Forum (WIPF) has expressed concern over poor participation of the female folks in politics. 

The group lamented that despite advocacies by civil society organisations, the situation was yet to improve.

President of the forum, Barrister Ebere Ifendu, stated this at the closing of the forum’s training session in Jos, the Plateau State capital.

She said the forum had trained 100 women in the state on the need to participate in politics and register with any political party of their choice.

She said their membership of political parties would serve as their major entry point into active participation in politics.

“We want to let women know that participating in politics is vital to their appointment and engagement for leadership positions,” she said.

Ifendu urged both federal and state governments and other relevant stakeholders to take necessary steps to promote women participation in politics.

A member of the forum and an expert on gender democracy and governance, Mrs Charity Anachat, said women’s participation in politics was crucial to national growth and development.

A specialist on women’s political empowerment with the United Nations, Chundung Ashley Dauda, said Nigeria stands to lose a lot when it excludes women in political activities and processes.
