The Plateau State chapter of Women in Mining Nigeria (WIMIN) has called on the Senate Committee on Solid Minerals Development to ensure women’s inclusion in the implementation of the N1 trillion allocated for the sector in the 2025 budget.

During the committee’s oversight visit to mining sites and institutions in Jos, WIMIN stressed that women contribute significantly across the mining value chain but remain underrepresented in policy and employment.

Dr. Raulatu Piwuna, WIMIN’s state secretary, highlighted a lack of gender balance in government mining institutions and urged the Senate to push for the employment of female professionals and fair access to funding, citing cases of unreasonable collateral demands that hinder women from accessing loans.

Committee chairman Ekong Sampson, represented by his deputy Mustapha Khabeeb, vowed to monitor the budget’s implementation and clamp down on illegal mining, while supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reforms in the sector.
