Women group, Nigerian Women for Grassroots Development (NWGD) has called on the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to step up action in resolution of matters concerning the Wuye Ultra Modern Market so traders who have no trouble with the developer can open their shops for business.
The women group said many allottees have met all the criteria set in the market and so they should not suffer for what is no fault of theirs.
Wuye Ultra Modern Market was developed by All Purpose Shelters Nigeria Limited through a Public Private Partnership with FCTA through Abuja Investments Company Limited (AICL).
The women called for “end to blackmail” by individuals who do not mean well, saying everybody knows the true state of affairs about the market and so they should allow reason to prevail.
The president and secretary of the group, Maimuna Aliyu and Olatoyin Adeniji respectively said in a statement on Friday that the plaintiffs (aggrieved traders) had threatened that they would not allow anybody else use the market if they are not allowed access to the market.
“Their claim was that the FCTA had given them provisional offer letter in 2002 and they were asked to pay administrative charges ranging from N2,000, N5,000, N8,000 and N20,000 to Aso Savings and Loans Limited as they claimed was in their offer letter.
“With this they further claimed to have met the financial obligations to own the market and thus, there is no need to wait for FCTA to show them their respective shops but to possess it through self help,” the statement read.
The group noted that some people are playing a script to satisfy selfish desires.
They urged FCTA and the police to quickly intervene to avoid breakdown of law and order.
The women said 1,000 allotees who were given allocation in the market with provisional offer letters have met requirements for shop ownership.
In all this, according to the women, it is those who have complied with requirements for owning shops and the All Purpose Shelters Limited that are at a loss.
