About 4,464 women have been sensitized on preventive measure against Vesico Vaginal Fistula (VVF) in Zamfara State.
The Engender Health, a non-governmental organisation funded by United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in collaboration with Zamfara state branch of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Association (FOMWAN) carried out the exercise in eight communities across the state and it was flagged-off at the Emir of Maru, Alhaji Abubakar Chika Ibrahim’s palace.
The communities, the campaign train visited were Maru, Mada, Gusau, Tsafe, Damba, Wanke, Kuryar-Madaro and Zurmi with 558 women participants in each of the communities.
Speaking during the last trip of the campaign tour in Zurmi community, the
Community and Mobilization Officer of the group, Mrs Amina Bala said the awareness campaign was under the project introduced by the organization ‘’Fistula Care Plus’’
“We decided to carry out this campaign program considering the rampant cases of the disease among women in the state and the country at large especially those in rural communities where there is low awareness on health care delivery so as to reduce the occurrences of the disease and its effect to our sisters,” she said.
State Ameera of FOMWAN, Hajiya Ladi Maru commended the NGO for the project which she described as one of the most serious health challenges facing women today.
