Women’s Day: FCT women town planners celebrate with toilet renovation in schools

The Association of Women Town Planners of Nigeria (FCT chapter) on Saturday unveiled the renovated toilet for Kuchingoro Primary and Secondary Schools to mark this year’s International Women’s Day in the community. 

City & Crime reports that women in the community were also invited to the event as part of the gesture to celebrate them.

 The chairperson of the association, Town Planner Yinka Bello, said “For this year, International Women’s Day, we felt that it won’t be good for us to just be celebrating the day in our offices with other professionals. We thought of coming out into the community and sharing this moment with the community and that’s why we are here. And in the process of doing that, we felt what is it that we can do to give back to the community that we are coming to visit and share this International Women’s Day with.

 “Now, we felt that one of the needs of the school is toilets and when we assess the situation within this place, we felt that we can bring an improvement on the existing restroom that they have in this place and that is pretty much what we have come here to do today and also to sensitise the children about basic public health issues and how to manage the environment,” she said.

 The principal of the secondary school, Mr Bulu James, expressed his excitement about the development in the school and the community, saying, “When I came here first, you will believe me that this place you see here was the only toilet in the entire community for the primary, junior and senior secondary schools. Honestly speaking, with this great work you have done, you have seriously improved the challenge of open defecation which is being practised here completely.”

 James further expressed how difficult it has been for the school to renovate the toilet through the parent-teacher association (PTA)

 The district head of the community also expressed his gratitude to the association for choosing to invest in the Kuchingoro community and as well keeping their promise of renovating the toilet in the school.
