….drag GALBA Nigeria to court

Workers of GALBA Nigeria Limited, who are also members of the Automobile Boatyards Transport Equipment and Allied (AUTOBATE) Senior Staff Association, have alleged that they’ve not been paid salaries of over 44 months and have dragged the company to the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN).

The General Secretary of AUTOBATE, Comrade Sola Olorunfemi, disclosed this in a letter, copies of which were issued to newsmen recently.

He said the workers were not sent off, neither was the company shut down, rather the workers were left in a socio-economic limbo by the management of GALBA Nigeria Limited which is owned by General T. Y. Danjuma.

He said: “This situation actually started long before 2015; precisely it started in the year 2013 but not with non-payment of workers’ salaries rather with non-remittance of the check-off dues already deducted from the workers to the union.”

He lamented that over 11 workers have died, including AUTOBATE Branch Secretary, Comrade Debora Ikiri, stressing that the deaths were caused by deteriorating health conditions with no fund to get appropriate medical attention whereas the deceased were owned salaries ranging from 18 months to 40 months before their death.

“The workers are now owned 44 months salaries, gratuities and other remunerations running into N350,000,000,” Sola said.
