There was tension and near fracas at the headquarters of Landover Company, owners of Overland Airways on Monday when members of the Air Transport Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) picketed the company.

The picketing almost turned violent when the protesting workers prevented the Managing Director/CEO of the company, Capt. Henry Boyo and other staff members from entering the premises.

The matter would have degenerated into a free-for-all-fight save for the swift intervention of the police.

Commissioner of Police in Lagos, Mr. Fatai Owoseni also visited the venue of the protest along Medical Road in Ikeja amidst rising tension.

When Daily Trust visited the company’s office Monday morning, scores of policemen were on ground apparently to prevent the matter from degenerating to a full blown violence.

ATSSSAN is protesting non-remittance of pensions, funds due to the cooperative accounts, alleged inhuman treatment of workers, arbitrariness, high-handedness of their members who are Helicopter Landing Officers (HLOs).

National President of ATSSSAN, Comrade Ahmadu Ilitrus told newsmen that the association resorted to picketing having exhausted all channels of dialogue, saying the management was not ready to accede to their demands.
