President Muhammadu Buhari has been urged to put monies recovered from looters into employment generating ventures to reduce the alarming unemployment rate in the country.
The call was made by the Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU) in a communiqué jointly signed by its president, Comrade Kiri Mohammed and the acting general secretary, F C. Ifoh, at the end of their special delegates conference held in Abuja.
The union, in the communiqué, also expressed concern on the current economic recession due to the fallen crude oil price which has made it difficult for regular payment of salaries.
The civil servants however warned governments at all levels not to capitalise on the situation at hand to deliberately deny workers their salaries, urging them to diversify into other sectors of the economy which had been neglected over time to ameliorate the situation.
 The union also advised politicians to reduce their political aides so as to save resources to meet other developmental programmes.
“The conference-in-session advocated for the reduction in the cost of governance at all tiers of government due to the dwindling resources. The union regretted to observe that hundreds of billions of naira are filtered away by the public office holders, most especially in the guise of security vote.
“In the same vein, the union expresses indignation in the way and manner public office holders and other individuals corruptly managed the resources of the country by diverting hard earned revenue through over bloated contract sums, unlimited appointment of political aides in the name of political gratification,” it said.
