The movie which will be set in Lagos and Abuja between February and March next will present Nigeria as a modern nation with dynamic and creative individuals as a major part of the society. “With casts like Aina, Edet, Kemi, Oluchi and Bako, the film offers a unique insight into the complex Lagos work place, and a story of survival and endurance.
“The five lead characters,” he added, “are dynamic young professionals at different stages of their lives, each choosing a path to follow. The story chronicles their difficulties and triumphs at work, and in their personal lives. This well crafted drama takes us inside the good and bad, and everything in-between for working professionals.”
‘Working People’ which will decry the central role of money in Nollywood, which in Afolabi’s view is responsible for the shoddy jobs that characterise the Nigerian film industry, will also inspire people to achieve their goals, promote artists, galleries, fashion designers who are relatively unknown and upcoming, thereby giving more opportunities for unknown talents to be discovered.
Regarding Nigeria’s impact on global film industry, the producer said “so far no Nigerian movie has been on any international film festival. The world is waiting for Nigeria to demonstrate its greatness, noting however that Nollywood actors and actresses were not disciplined, their scripts lack depth, and the result is usually fraught with directing blunders.
The company presently auditioning for actors and stage hands between ages 22 and 35 and some 45, 55 and 60 will have auditions in Lagos, Abuja and Calabar among others, depending on responses received from the various regions of the nation.
Afolabi who has worked on productions in Hollywood and with prominent artistes like Brad Pitt over the years, filmmaking and acting involve a lot of discipline and encourages prospective applicants to go by the rules and directions as advertised on the company’s website, in the course of application for roles they intend to play.
The cast after auditioning will undergo a one to two month training by acting coaches from the US.
