World Bank disburses $250,000 US dollars to 10 vulnerable Nasarawa communities

The World Bank through Agro Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape, (ACReSAL), disbursed $250,000 US dollars revolving loan to 10 vulnerable communities in Doma and Toto local government areas of Nasarawa State.
Dr Joy Iganya Agene, the Task Team Leader, ACReSAL, and Senior Environmental Specialist World Bank Nigeria Office disclosed this during the first loan disbursement of AcreSal community revolving funds to the selected communities.
Dr Joy said there are 620 beneficiaries comprising 367 males and 253 females from five communities each from the benefiting LGAs of the two LGAs.
Dr Joy said: “I am highly impressed with the modalities used for the selection. As a World Bank, we are here to implement one of our core value objectives which is aimed at lifting people out of poverty and restoring land.”
On his part, the National Coordinator of the ACReSAL Project, Mr Abdulhamid Umar, and his Nasarawa State counterpart, Dr Napoleon Elias, noted that the federal government’s project which is funded by the World Bank to the tune of seven hundred million US dollars is aimed at not only tackling environmental challenges in the nineteen northern states and the FCT, but to also address poor land use practice and adoption of best strategies towards ecological restoration.
