World Cup: Fans react as Davido performs for first time since son’s death

Fans of Nigerian music star, Davido, have aired their excitement as they witnessed the multiple award-winning singer thrill audience at the closing ceremony of the 2022 FIFA World Cup which was held in Qatar. The frenzy by the singer’s lovers is due to the fact this is the first time Davido would perform on a stage for a large audience since the death of his three-year-old son, Ifeanyi, who drowned in a pool at Davido’s residence.

The singer alongside his counterparts, Trinidad Cardona and Aisha performed the song, “Hayya Hayya (Better Together).

Ever since the demise of the pop star’s son on October 31, he went AWOL on all social media platforms, however, before his performance at the closing ceremony of the World Cup, the singer was seen in a video where he simply said, “Tell the world we are back.”

After his performance, Nigerians stated their view on social media. For instance, the singer’s friend and close ally Cubana Chief Priest via his Instagram account wrote, “Love❤️ You Too Bro @davido. Yes👏 We Did It Bestie Mi @_deangels is Always Ready !!!! #30BillionGang👏”

Ace Nigerian disc jockey, DJ Neptune via his verified Twitter account expressed his happiness seeing his colleague perform as he tweeted, “@davido… We are so happy to see and watch you perform.”

Big Brother Naija star, Tacha also commented on the popstar’s performance via her verified Twitter account as she wrote, “super excited to see DAVIDO BACK ON STAGE!!! Making AFRICA PROUD! And always REPRESENTING!! Bigger you I PRAY!!!”(sic)

Moreso, the singer’s elder brother and music executive, Adewale Adeleke,  also commented on Davido’s performance saying, “Watching @davido perform at the World Cup final just brought a huge smile to my face! Love you bro.”
