IGazinsky got a pass from Aleksandr Golovin before directing his header beyound the reach of Saudi Arabia’s goalkeeper Al-Mayoof in the12th minute of the opening match.
Saudi Arabia failed to clear the corner from the home side and Golovin directed a cross to the back post for
Gazinsky to rise above his man and place his header into the bottom corner.
The midfielder scored with the first shot on target at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Russia and Saudi Arabia’s only previous encounter was in October 1993 with the Saudis coming top with a 4-2 win at home.
