Director Public Building, Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) Ikenna Ekeledo has advised interior designers companies to as much as possible use local materials in the manufacturing  of their products so that the cost would be affordable by would-be buyers.
Ekeledo, said this at the weekend during an interview with Daily Trust as part of activities marking the World Interior Day.
He said the nation had not done enough in interior design as well as not having enough  personnel  in it, even as he said “In FCDA  we have a good number of them hence we organized an  exhibition the previous week to create the awareness  and project the designers  to other agencies and individuals’’.
Ekeledo noted the exhibition organized was designed to showcase  made- in- Nigeria interior furniture, interior finishing materials that are of good quality and also creating market for the participating companies.
“Over the years we have laid much emphasis on the external aspect of building and very little on the  interior and we spend much time in the interior. We have not done enough on interior design, so this month we have decided to create awareness on the interior, what we use to finish the interior of the building, like painting furniture, colour have different connotation, as some make you feel good, warm while others are aggressive to health and this awareness is to make people appreciate it more.
“If people know the impact of colour and combination of furniture to human beings whether in the office or in the house, they would be able to appreciate interior design,” he said. While advising interior design companies to look inwards in sourcing for the materials used in finishing the building interior, he called on individuals to consult interior design professionals because it is good for their health.
