World Press Day: Bauchi NUJ tasks state government to digitize media outfits

Bauchi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has called on the state government to digitize all state-owned media outfits.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by its secretary, Yakubu Muhammad Lame, the union urged Bauchi state government to ensure the full digitisation of its two broadcast media; Bauchi Radio Corporation (BRC) and the Bauchi State Television Authority (BATV) before the expiration of the deadline given by the NBC.

“Journalists should be encouraged to develop initiatives in favour of press freedom, and to assess the state of their freedom for the success of their assignment.

"We noted the cordial relationship existing between the union and all MDAs as well as security agencies in the state and hoped that the relationship will be sustained," the statement added.

The union reassures the Bauchi state government of its commitment to support Governor Mohammed Abubakar-led administration in order “to collectively take our dear state to greater heights.”

It also appealed to media owners in the state to ensure the welfare and freedom of journalists working for them are regularly improved upon.

May 3rd of every year is celebrated the world over to commemorate the fundamental principles of press freedom, popularly regarded as World Press Day.
