There are many of us that claim that they would do anything for love. But how realistic is that claim? This is big question that Adebayo Hakeem seems to be asking everyone that claims to do anything for love. “I am in a very tight situation now, as my wife has put me in a very uncomfortable condition; she has asked that I do something that my conscience would not let me do, but anytime I try to tell her that I cannot do that she then uses that to measure the level of love that I have for her. But anytime I try to do it, I always remember Meat Loaf’s song, ‘I will do anything for love; but I won’t do that’” Adebayo says.
Now the big question is, Would you do anything, no matter what, just to prove the extent of your love for your partner? Many women measure the love their partners have for them by what they can do for them. In relationships, we actually do bend a lot in terms of things we want to do and things we do not want to, all to keep the peace of the relationship. When we are in love most of our visions are not perfect and we end up doing things that we will end up regretting. Being blinded by love is not an idle phrase.
How far would you go for love? Womanhood spoke to some women- and men as well- to asked if they would throw caution to the wind and do anything in the name of love. “This love you are talking about, how realistic is it, it is just an emotion that you have for a few months or years for someone and after sometime it will fade, so why will I do anything in the name of love to prove that I really love her. To me it just does not make sense. I will show my love but will not go above limits to prove it”- Daniel TK.
For some people there seems to be no limit to attempts at proving their love for their partner. “Well, if I really love him, I will definitely do everything and any other extra- ordinary thing to prove the intensity of the love that I have for him. If you do not do it, how do you show that you truly have that love and affection? Remember that it is only when you show it that you get a positive response and he will also appreciate you for who you are”, says Onyekachi Daniel. “I do not think I will do anything extraordinary for love, it is supposed to be a natural thing so why go all the way? Moreover the kinds of men we have nowadays are just not worth going all the way to prove your love for. I have met a lot of women who did anything for love but at the end of the day only got disappointed because the men dumped them for someone that could also prove the love better. So this thing called love is just a word between partners; there is no way you can ever prove your love to a being called man, because for them it does not exist” says Asabe Hussain.
“There was a time that I would have given my all in all to prove my love; I would do anything no matter the consequences to prove my love. Times when I made desperate sacrifices in the hope of keeping the love alive and real but then it was too late before I realized that I was wasting my time as this thing called love is only realistic in romance novels, not real life. I have been a victim of it and would not do anything in the name of love”, says Murna Dabo.
Love makes the world go around and it is ironic that the same love brings us so much pain and sorrow when taken to extremes. One grows in every stage in life, showing the level at which you love your partner should not be a do or die affair. Everyone needs to set limits and stick to them, at least if not for anything but for the relationship to succeed. According to a song by musician Meat Loaf, the lover would ‘go to hell and back for you, he will do anything for love but he won’t do that’ meaning he would face any pain for the relationship but he wouldn’t do it anyway, signifying that there are limits in the relationship. So what would you do for love?
