Writers, performers, artists for 2016 WRR literary festival

words, Rhymes and Rhythm (WRR) will host writers, performers, artists, thinkers and book lovers for its annual one-day literary festival themed ‘Words in a Season of Change’.

This will hold on December 3 at the Institute of African Studies, University of Ibadan (UI), Ibadan, Oyo State.

Poet, linguist and lecturer, Emmanuel Inedu (author of ‘Cockcrow at Noon’), will present a paper exploring the place of writers in the prevailing political atmosphere. He will be joined in discussion by sickle cell awareness campaigner, Awodiya Funke, who will be reading from her book ‘The Farmer’s Daughter’, and Goodness Olanrewaju Ayoola, teacher and author of the acclaimed collection of poems, ‘Meditations’.

The festival will also feature discussions, awards, readings, musical performances, and a play by the University of Ibadan Theatre Arts Students.

Two books will be unveiled at the festival titled ‘Rainbows and Fireflies’, co-authored by the winners of the N300, 000 WRR Green Author Prize (GAP) 2016; ‘Loops of Hope’, the Brigitte Poirson Poetry Contest (BPPC) 2016 anthology which will be distributed free to all attendees. The winner of the 2016 Albert Jungers Poetry Prize (AJPP) will also be unveiled at the event, along with award to over a 100 recipients for the 2016 prizes for GAP, BPPC, and AJPP.

The festival flagged off in 2015 and is in its second year.
