A former Nollywood actress turned evangelist, Joy Edjeren, has said writing a book gave her the liberty to express herself to the delight of readers without biases of the social media.

Edjeren who authored ‘The birth and death of JJ Bunny’, urged more Nigerians to take to writing books to preserve information for the upcoming generations. She said social media cannot replace books, “You cannot share everything on social media. When you write, you have the liberty to share details of your experiences knowing that people can read it without the biases of social media to dissuade them.”

Edjeren, who is based in the United States, recently held a book signing event in Dubai and she said writing a book is a great place to preserve information.

She said there has been backlash from the exposé of her book about the entertainment industry but added that she remained undeterred in her defence of the truth.

She said her book, a first-hand exposé on the entertainment industry, received backlash from the people that love Nollywood movies. “They basically reject whatever I say, saying it is an attack on the industry. Some said it is because I did not make it big, forgetting that I was working with the best of Nollywood. There have been a lot of backlashes especially on social media but Christians do understand because their spiritual eyes are opened. It takes people whose spiritual eyes are open to see the things I am talking about in a godly way and those people that have a high moral standard are able to understand what I say about the industry,” she added.
