This week I walked into Coscharis showroom the first thing that stared at me right in the face is the X6M. With its mean looking head lamps looking like the eye of a tiger and the huge sport bumpers. The air vents on the bumpers are huge which gives the impression it sucks lots of air to pull the car. Really we don’t know. All we know is that it has a V8 engine with 547 horsepower and it will sprint from 0- 60mph in 4.7 seconds. It is also delimited to 155mph (250km/h) which is as fast as a saloon car.

The interior layout of the dash is very much similar to the 2010 5 series due in Nigeria soon. Yet it is not as commodious as the Porsche Cayenne turbo, the Range Rover Sports and the Infiniti FX50S, its alternatives. The only thing which the X6M does so well is performing on flat-out roads and it is probably the best crossover on paper.

But then there is a problem. Where can you use it? Why would I spend a lot of money to get an X6M when there is no road to run flat-out at the speed of 155mph. If you have ever hit 130mph (209km/h) you will always notice that such speed is not sustainable. In Germany where this car is made, there is an autobahn of 7000 miles in which if you pick your spot wisely you could sustain the 155mph a little longer than in Nigeria. Only if the Federal Government where made a straight stretch of 1000 miles from north to south then travelling by road becomes more economical- which is why big cars were built in the first place. But still I thank God for Dana Air. Here in Nigeria you are often interrupted by slow moving cars and dangerous spots on the road. Sadly this is not a car for posing but rather for putting it on a track to get lap records- where can you find that in Nigeria? Instead I would go for the 3 liters X6.

So why would any big man buy X6M? It is simply to make you feel hopeless so that you would want to kill yourself if you really have nothing reasonable to do with your life. Obviously this is a Batman looking 4X4 and sad to say we not living on Gotham city.

Its style is both modern and conservative which is a funny mix so that it audience could become confused. But for the sake of its coup like roof line it will only appeal to Nigeria youth who can in many ways get confused with money.

This week I have crave so much for the BMWs I saw that I had to think if I had a lot of money would I spend it on the X6M. Really I would not. I would be concerned with establishing a business building my house and if I had one build more or instead pay for Porsche Cayenne.
