Recently, the price of onion in Abuja was high, forcing many consumers to look for alternatives.

Malam Aminu Ibrahim, a seasoned onion in Abuja, explained the challenges and triumphs that defined his journey in the business.

Ibrahim said, “As of three weeks ago, a bag of onion cost me N120,000. However, this week, the price dropped to N90,000.”

He emphasised that the price depended on the type of bag one intended to buy and his insights shed light on the market’s responsiveness to various factors, including logistics.

Having navigated the onion business for over a decade, Ibrahim said, “I’ve been in this business for the past 14 years,” proudly underscoring the endurance required to thrive in the competitive world of agricultural trading.

While Ibrahim has traditionally weathered the challenges of the onion trade, this year presented a unique obstacle.

He said, “I don’t normally experience many challenges, but this year is different due to an increase in fuel price.”

When asked about the origin of his onion, Ibrahim said, “I normally buy from Sokoto State, and it takes just two days for them to reach me here in Abuja.”

Despite the challenges, asked if he makes profit, Ibrahim affirmed, “Yes, I make a lot of profit. It helps me take care of my family and engage in charity work.”
