The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command has warned against the use of fireworks, firecrackers or knockout throughout the celebration of Christmas and New Year in the territory.

Addressing newsmen at the police command headquarters in Abuja, on Monday, the Commissioner of Police, CP Haruna Garba, said the ban on the use of fireworks became necessary, which he said may cause panic or apprehension to the residents during festivities.

He also disclosed that the command has deployed human and material resources at the command’s disposal across the nooks and crannies of the FCT to ensure a hit free festival.

According to him, the deployment of its personnel and material resources is characterised by visibility policing at various places of worship and event centres and raids on identified black spots.

He said the command has ensured in deploying its personnel to some black spots such as uncompleted buildings/shanties, stop and search, vehicular/foot patrol and inter-agency cooperation, which he said is aimed at ensuring that residents of the FCT enjoys a hitch free festivity before, during and after the Christmas celebration.
