There is an unprecedented crowd around Ahmadu Bello Way, the Terminus area and Murtala Mohammed Way in the heart of Jos, Plateau State has caused heavy gridlock due to last minute Christmas shopping.

This is due to the payment of three months backlog of salaries and seven months pensioner’s arrears by the Plateau State government last week.

Banks’ Automated Teller Machines, (ATM), were also crowded with customers queuing as early as 5am while others came from different parts of the state to make withdrawals due to fewer banks in those areas.

A civil servant, Juliana Monday, told Daily Trust that the salaries came at the right time but advised parents not to exhaust the money on the Christmas festivities but save part for school fees in January. 

It was gathered from traders that there have been boosts in customer patronage in the last one week which consequently resulted in food price hike.

Sarah Mancha who sells vegetables at the Terminus market said in the last two days, she sold vegetables worth N38, 000.
