The Federation in a statement made available to Trustsports says the council chairman, Prince Victor Kayode Obaro has accepted to host the median edition of National U-12 and U-15 male and female Handball championship in October this year.
According to the statement signed by the Federation’s Public Relations Officer, Agu Ikenna Prince Obaro made this known when the president of Handball Federation of Nigeria Alhaji Yusuf Dauda led other board members on a courtesy visit to the council.
The council boss promised to ensure that all the facilities needed for the championship are provided before the commencement of the championship, adding that plans have been concluded for the construction of two new ultra modern outdoor handball courts in the local council.
“I am a grassroots leader and based on this, I believe that the best way to develop any sport or event is to take to the grassroots and that is exactly what the current administration in Yagba Local Government is doing”, Obaro stated.
In his rely, President of Handball Federation of Nigeria Alhaji Yusuf Dauda expressed immense gratitude to the Chairman and the people of Yagba local government for the honour to host the annual championship, adding that he was happy is ready to assist youths in the area develop a career out of handball.
He assured that the current board of the HFN would strive to restore the lost glory of the game of basketball in Nigeria, and regretted that some past administrations of the board did not do much to develop the game.
“I can conveniently say today that the history of handball in Nigeria will not be complete without mentioning in clear terms the giant strides made by Honourable Obaro to bring the game of handball to the grassroots; and to be specific, the current HFN board has anchored its developmental programme on grassroots”, Yusuf concluded
