The 2025 edition of the Ogidi Day Cultural Festival, held in Ogidi, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, was a celebration of tradition, unity, and honour — drawing together dignitaries, cultural leaders, and citizens from across Nigeria.

One of the key highlights of the festival was the presentation of the “Legend of Resourceful Democracy Award” to former Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello by the Ogidi Traditional Council under the leadership of His Royal Highness, Oba Rabiu Oladimeji Sule, the Ologidi of Ogidi Land.

The award was presented in recognition of Governor Bello’s notable legacy in democratic governance, infrastructure development, youth and women inclusion, and his enduring support for community progress during his tenure as Governor of Kogi State.

Joining in the celebration was Distinguished Senator Ohere Sadiku Abubakar, former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Content, who commended the honour, describing it as a fitting tribute to a leader whose public service continues to inspire.

“Governor Yahaya Bello’s leadership transformed several sectors in Kogi State. His courage and inclusive style of governance earned him the admiration of many. This honour from the Ogidi people is richly deserved,” Senator Ohere remarked.

Senator Ohere, who holds the prestigious title of Gbamiboye of Ogidi Land, expressed deep appreciation to the Ologidi and the people of Ogidi for their consistent commitment to celebrating credible leadership and preserving cultural values.

He recalled that the Gbamiboye title was conferred upon him several years ago during his tenure as Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, noting that the relationship he shared with the Ogidi royal institution remains one of mutual respect and collaboration.

“His Royal Highness, Oba Rabiu Oladimeji Sule, is a leader of wisdom and vision. Our relationship during my time as Commissioner was deeply enriching, and being honoured with the Gbamiboye title was a moment of great pride and responsibility,” he said.

The festival, which featured traditional music, dances, masquerade performances, and community displays, also served as a rallying platform for unity among sons and daughters of Ogidi — both at home and in the diaspora.

Former Governor Yahaya Bello, in his remarks, thanked the Ogidi community for the recognition and pledged continued support for cultural promotion and grassroots development.

“True leadership is measured by the people you serve. I am humbled by this recognition from the Ogidi community, and I remain committed to advancing causes that strengthen our people and institutions,” he stated.

With its rich cultural heritage on full display, the 2025 Ogidi Day Festival reaffirmed the community’s position as a stronghold of tradition, honour, and visionary engagement.
