Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, received a distinguished award for excellence in governance and healthcare delivery over the weekend.
The award was presented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, during the 2024 Nigeria Excellence Awards in Public Service (NEAPS) held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Governor Yahaya was honoured as the Best Performing Governor in the governance and health Sector, recognizing his significant contributions to healthcare development in Gombe State.
The nomination for the award came from the Presidency through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), in collaboration with Best Strategic Media (BSM).

Vice President Shettima, delivering the president’s speech, emphasized the Federal Government’s commitment to creating an environment where merit is rewarded and public servants feel valued and motivated to give their best.
He said, “Reward and recognition are the very markers of every thriving institution, and indeed, nation. The essence of any successful entity, whether a private enterprise ora public institution, lies in its ability to honour those who work to uphold its values and drive its progress.”
President Tinubu commended the awardees and other Nigerian public servants, stressing the importance of remembering their contributions to inspire others.
In his welcome address, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, explained that the selection process for the honourees was based on empirical facts and verifiable figures. He assured that efforts would be made to maintain this initiative to motivate and encourage excellence in the country’s public service.
Governor Yahaya dedicated the award to the people of Gombe State, especially the healthcare workers, urging them to see the honour as an opportunity to provide more effective and efficient service.
“We are inspired by this recognition to redouble our efforts in uplifting the lives of the people of Gombe State,” he emphasized.
