President of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Pharm. Ahmed Yakasai on Friday charged young pharmacists to be passionate about the profession conscious of the fact that they are meant to save lives.
“Pharmacy is not only a profession but it is actually a passion to save lives and I believe Pharmacist is doing one of the greatest jobs in the world with new dimensions of our practice which centred on pharmaceutical care,” he said.
Yakasai stated this in his remarks at the fifth International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation – African Pharmaceutical symposium held in Kenya on Friday.
The President who addressed the student-pharmacists on the seven keys of personal breakthrough said perseverance, endurance, patience, persistence are the keys to success.
He said, “You should prepare in advance before engaging in any adventure to never ever give up whatever the circumstance. Then let each setback inspires you to greater achievement, rather than pull you back and prevent you from living your dreams.
“Regardless of what your dream may be, however big or small it is, if you have the ability to think it, you can certainly have the ability to accomplish it, once you choose to persist. Winners persist, they never quit.”
Yakasai who is also a one-time commissioner for health in Kano state further urged the young pharmacists to believe in themselves and continue to seek knowledge.
He said, “Believe in yourself: if you don’t believe in yourself that you can succeed, then, you may not succeed. But if you believe you CAN, then you CAN. Your belief system is a powerful yet subtle working system that determines your thoughts, values, emotions, actions, dreams and attitude.
“Believe in yourself, your dreams are possible. Believe in the greatness in you, and you will succeed. Believe that you are here on earth to make a difference and achieve your full potentials. Believe and you shall receive.
“Coming to Mombasa to talk to you is particularly meaningful to me as a mentor with 33 years’ post graduate experience. That means if I were to be a drug, I would have been a generic for a long time”.
