A former Chairman of Gombe Sports Commission and Proprietor of FC Yarmalight, Malam Farouk Yarma, has presented 40 footballs to all the participating clubs in the maiden Gombe State Nationwide League Football Pre-season Tournament.

Represented by Habu Ya’u, the CEO of Prudential Sports handed over the balls to the organizers of the competition, which were later presented to the representatives of the 20 clubs with each taking home two  balls.

The former Commissioner of Youth Empowerment in Gombe State also supported the tournament with N200,000 that will see the winners taking home N150,000 while the runners up would receive N50,000 consolation prize.

“Support for grassroots or amateur football must go beyond rhetoric to practical demonstration of interest and commitment to the growth of the sport right from the lower cadre.

“I will continue to give back to society in the area of sports. This is not going to be a one-off thing as nothing gives me joy more than helping the less privileged to achieve their dreams in life,” said Yarma.

The Co-ordinator of the tournament and chairman of the State League One Forum, Malam Hashim Ibrahim thanked the donor for the gesture and appealed to other philanthropists and major stakeholders in Gombe State to contribute towards the success of the competition.

According to the organisers, the amateur football competition will kick off on Sunday November 17, 2024 at the Pantami stadium.
