Ivory Coast legend, Yaya Toure, has been appointed the new head coach of Slovakia league champions Slovan Bratislava.
Toure has signed a three-year deal to become coach of the most successful club in the country until 2029.
The former Manchester City player stepped down from his assistant coach role with the Saudi Arabia national team to pursue an appointment that has now been confirmed.
He will become Slovan Bratislava’s first ever black coach, and the first of African descent.

Slovan Bratislava CEO Ivan Kmotrik Jr. revealed that Toure made the most impression in interviews and will assist the 43-year-old to become successful at the club.
Toure who was assisting Italian coach Roberto Mancini before his appointment, stated that the role is the actualization of a long-term desire to work on his own “project”, and has been studying the team in readiness of the start of his job on Monday.
“As an assistant, I had the opportunity to work with Robert Mancini, for example, but I’ve longed for a long time to be able to work on my own project as a head coach. I appreciate that this opportunity is coming at a top club, which I recently watched in a Champions League match against Manchester City. I really can’t wait for Monday; I’m excited about what lies ahead.”
“I want to build on that while also bringing something new and unique of my own. Football is everything to me. I love challenges and am incredibly excited to coach a great club with a rich history, a beautiful stadium, and high ambitions.”
Previously an under-16 academy coach at Tottenham, Tour spent three years with the Saudi Arabia national team before his current appointment.
