Organisers of the event, Braznuk Gold, said the show was put together in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Culture, Tourism and National Orientation Agency (NOA), the African Union (AU), the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Bayelsa State government and other stakeholders.
President and founder, African Fashion Reception, who is also the patron, World Fashion Africa Organisation, Dr. Mary Obuah, who made the revelation at a press conference in Abuja, said 25 fashion designers have been selected from 149 applicants wishing to participate in the event.
She said many African countries, including Angola, Botswana, Egypt, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Rwanda and Sierra Leone, as well as 35 international models and the international media.
Obuah said the idea was to explore the business side of fashion and show the world that Nigerian products are good for the international market, adding that after the event will be taken from state to state.
Minister for Culture, Tourism and National Orientation, Mr. Edem Duke, in his remarks at the event, said Bayelsa State has also indicated interest in investing in the new fashion university that will be established by the World Fashion Organisation.
He said the African Fashion Reception is meant to alleviate poverty, offer job creation for Nigerians and Africans because the state is the leading destination for tourism activities in Nigeria and assured participants that the state will make every one proud as he also assured of the security of lives and property during and after the event.
