The Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) has commenced the deployment and distribution of 3,000 prepaid meters to Band A customers under the Distribution Sector Recovery Program (D-SREP).
Mr. Ibrahim Salisu, YEDC, Regional Manager Yobe State, disclosed this to newsmen at the company’s headquarters in Damaturu, the state capital.
He said the initiative supported by the federal government of Nigeria in collaboration with the World Bank, was meant to enhance the performance of the distribution company and also to bring transparency and accurate billing and improved customers’ satisfaction.
According to him, 3,000 free meters had been deployed as the first phase, with the target customers on Band-A.
He said this has received approval from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
He added that the company is targeting the distribution of 52,000 meters to the customers across the state, adding that the installation will be carried out by approved vendors at no cost.
