Yobe state has reopened work on the Katarko bridge, destroyed by insurgents, along Damaturu-Gujba road.

It will cost the state government N170 million to reconstruct.

Governor Ibrahim Gaidam said Yobe  hastily reconstructed and re-opened the bridge for users, acceding to the socio-economic demands by communities in the area.

He explained that the state has awarded reconstruction of 77km Damaturu-Gujba- Mazga federal road; currently under construction for N6 billion to support the bridge in linking villages, towns and access road to rural farmers in the area.

"It’s expected to be completed by May this year,” he added.

Also inspecting the over 20km Damaturu township road cutting the width and breadth of the state capital, Gaidam promised that his plan to transform Damaturu and other major town in the state into befitting cities be achieved before 2019.

He commended the State Ministry of Works for the quality road network, and encouraged the commissioner to employ more workers and sustain the gesture for more result.

In his remark, the state commissioner of works, Lawan Shettima, said the contract was going according to specifications, and the level work was at 70 percent completed.
