Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has said the withdrawal of the former President of the 9th Senate, Ahmad Lawan, and other aspirants from the 2027 governorship race reflected loyalty and commitment to the ideals of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Daily Trust had reported how Senator Lawan, Senator Musa Mustapha, Alhaji Lawan Kolo Geidam, Dr. Babagana Mohammed Adam and former Inspector-General of Police Usman Alkali Baba stepped down from the 2027 governorship race in the state.
Buni said the decision was made in the interest of peace, stability and continuity, urging party supporters to remain united and avoid actions capable of causing division within the APC.
The governor stated this on Thursday at the Muhammadu Buhari International Cargo Airport, Damaturu, during a grand reception and solidarity rally organised for him and the party’s preferred governorship aspirant, Baba Malam Wali, after their successful screening in Abuja.

Thousands of APC supporters from the 17 local government areas of the state attended the event.
Youths, women groups and party faithful were seen in a jubilant mood as they welcomed the governor and other party leaders.
Addressing the crowd, Buni described the turnout as a sign that Yobe remained a stronghold of the APC.
“Today’s outing is a true indication that Yobe State is the home of APC. We remain one united family, and we must not allow politics to divide us,” he said.
The governor cautioned supporters against political bitterness, abusive remarks and name-calling, saying such acts were against the culture and tradition of the people of the state.
“We should avoid banter, name-calling and abuse. It is not in our culture and character, and we must not tolerate it,” he added.
Buni also commended residents of the state for their support and confidence in the administration as well as the decisions taken by the party leadership.
“Your support and cooperation with our administration have produced fruitful results, including this airport.
“Your faith in the decisions of the party, which produced the preferred governorship aspirant, is highly encouraging and supportive,” the governor said.
