Players and officials of Yobe Desert Stars Football Club were involved in a road accident on Thursday, April 3, while traveling to Birnin Kebbi for a league match.
According to the Desert Stars Media, the incident occurred in Sokoto State, and the injured persons were treated at a local hospital.
The statement issued by the media team of the club said three officials and a few players sustained injuries in the accident.
The club has called on its supporters and football fans in Damaturu to pray for the speedy recovery of those injured.
“We urge our supporters and all football lovers to remain calm and pray for the quick recovery of those injured in the accident,” said the club.
The team was travelling to Kebbi in a hired mass transit bus as the club bus was said to be unserviceable.
At the time of press, efforts to reach the club officials who were at the scene of the unfortunate incident and in Damaturu for comments were unsuccessful.
Meanwhile, Yobe Stars are leading the Nigeria National League (NNL) Group D with 11 points having won three, drawn two and lost one out of six matches played so far.
Other clubs that are vying for the sole group ticket with Yobe Stars are Doma United, Basira, Sporting Supreme, Kebbi United, Kada Warriors and Adamawa United.
