Association of Resident Doctors, (ARD) in Yobe has issued 21 days ultimatum to the state government over salary cuts or face industrial action.
However, the state commissioner for Health, Dr. Muhammad Bello Kawuwa, said there was initial hiccups with the implementation of the newly approved 100 percent CONHESS/CONMESS salary structure for Health workers in the state.
He said that there was no formal complain to his ministry or the authority concern on the doctors claims, while calling on them to channel their complains appropriately.
"The governor had approved 100 percent CONHESS/CONMESS on May 14, 2018. We can’t rule out hitches at the take-off of the new salary formular because gaps could be found here and there"
He said the state government is most willing to respond to any demand that would improve the doctors welfare being that it was the policy thrust of Geidam’s administration.
Issuing the ultimatum on Wednesday at a press conference in Damaturu, the Chairman of the Association, Dr. Ali Mohammed Abdu, said his members have noticed a cut in their May salaries, at the time when government approved full CONHESS salary structure to medical workers.
He said other issues to make them down tools in the next 21 days include: implementation of new remuneration package to reflect what obtains at the federal level, and Doctors’ promotion should be immediate and automatic henceforth.
He noted that part of the resolutions was that residency programme package and all allowances should be reviewed upward and settled with immediate effect; more Doctors should be employed to improve manpower, and the government should start housemanship and residency programme in the hospital.
Others are: "that youth corps doctors serving in the state should be paid immediately what is due to them and be prompt henceforth; and that accident and emergency wards should be equipped with necessary emergency drugs and equipments so also the theatre", he added.
Abdu also commended Governor Ibrahim Geidams administration for doing very well in health sector saying "All the indices of Health is at a positive side but what we need is to get what the governor has promised".
