Yobe donates sports kits to military, para-military agencies
The Yobe State Government has donated sports kits and equipment to military and paramilitary agencies to promote physical fitness, strengthen civil-security relations, and support the state’s post-insurgency recovery efforts.
Presenting the items in Damaturu, the Commissioner for Youth, Sports, Social and Community Development, Alhaji Barma Shettima, said the donation was aimed at encouraging healthy recreation and wellness among security personnel while enhancing the cordial relationship between security agencies and their host communities.
Represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Muhammad Gidado Abubakar, the commissioner described sports as an effective tool for promoting peace, unity and social cohesion.
He said the initiative is in line with Governor Mai Mala Buni’s vision of building a healthy, secure and productive society.
According to him, each of the benefiting security agencies received 18 football jerseys, two tracksuits, two footballs, 12 pairs of football boots and other sporting equipment in appreciation of their commitment to maintaining peace and security in the state.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, the representative of the Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel W.O. Ahmad, thanked the state government for the gesture, saying the equipment would boost sports development within the security agencies.
Also speaking, the North-East Zonal Vice President of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Comrade Ahmad Kagana Amshi, commended the Yobe State Government for its sustained investment in sports development.
