Yobe government has opened 85 centres for feeding Almajiri children across the 17 local government areas of the state, providing them access to meals for Ramadan iftar (breakfast).

The Executive Secretary, Yobe State Arabic and Islamic Education Board, Malam Umar Abubakar, disclosed this in an interview with Daily Trust on Thursday.

He revealed that Governor Mai Mala Buni approved the establishment of the centres in 85 Tsangaya schools to reduce the plight of less privilege in the state.

“We supply raw food items to the 85 Tsangaya schools, 5 in each of the 17 local government areas, feeding between 300 to 400 almajiris in each of these Tsangayas’,” he said.

He said three mega feeding centers were also opened in Damaturu to ensure over 2,000 Almajiris and other less privileged have access to meals for breaking their fast.

Abubakar said its the duty of the board to give the Almajiris children and orphans a sense of belonging in the state, “Therefore, we sew clothes for over 850 of them and Insha’Allah, our plan is to increase the number in future,”.

He thanked the governor for supporting the initiative and appealed to other state governors and well-to-do individuals to emulate the good work by supporting the less privileged in the society.
