Alhaji Maimala Buni, Yobe governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Saturday expressed optimism that his party would clinch the governorship seat.

Speaking in Damaturu after casting his vote, Buni, who is the immediate-past National Secretary of the APC before resigning his position to take a shot at the number one position of the state, lauded the impressive turn-out of voters, which he said was a sign of victory.

Buni also lauded the peaceful conduct of the exercise in the state, adding, “so far, it has been very peaceful and the process is going on smoothly across the state, giving us more confidence for victory.”

The candidate paid glowing tribute to Yobe electorate for their resilience in insisting on discharging their civic duties in spite of the fragile security situation in parts of the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the elections were conducted peacefully across the state without any security breach, with over 4,000 security personnel deployed to various parts of the state.

It would be recalled that during the Presidential and National Assembly polls on Feb.23rd, insurgents had attacked Gaidam town, headquarters of Gaidam Local Government Area of the state, where the state governor was to have gone to cast his vote.

Although voters later came out to exercise their franchise after the military had neutralised the insurgents, the development forced Gov. Ibrahim Gaidam to forfeit his voting right. (NAN)
