This is in addition to its establishment of a sustainable drugs supply scheme which was capitalised with drugs worth over N100 million, ensuring the availability of essential drugs in targeted health facilities.
Speaking during a ceremony to commission the equipments in Damaturu recently, Yobe State Governor, Ibrahim Geidam, said the interventions received by the government from development partners have been the driving factor for its reforms in the health sector.
He cited the initiatives in the sector to include free drugs scheme for pregnant women, children under the age of five, establishment of the State Primary Health Care Management Board, procurement and distribution of anti-malaria, insecticide treated nets and other essential drugs and equipment.
Geidam however appealed to PRRINN -MNCH and DFID to expand its engagement in the  state to reach localities that have not been reached by the project.
The National Programme Manager of PRRINN-MNCH, Dr. Ahmad Abdulwahab, in his address said the donated equipment were meant for 26 facilities in six LGAs.
“…52 secondary and primary health care facilities in the remaining 11 LGAs have already been renovated, equipped and relevant staff trained. These rehabilitation and equipment are worth over N400 million,” he disclosed.
Abdulwahab urged the state government to demonstrate full ownership of the intervention projects by scaling them up as needed and providing adequate resources; human, material and financial.
PRRINN-MNCH is a programme jointly funded by the DFID and Government of Norway to support four states with the highest infants and maternal mortality rates: Katsina, Zamfara, Yobe and Jigawa to achieve the MDGs 4 and 5 which focus on improving the lives of mothers and children.
