Yobe govt mobilizes traditional rulers on polio eradication

The Yobe deputy governor, Abubakar D Ali, has mobilized traditional rulers in areas identified with low compliance on routine immunization in the state.

The mobilization campaign was held at the Palace of Emir of Damaturu, Shehu Hashimi Ibn Elkanemi, on Thursday.

He said the campaign was taken to the emir’s palace to engage stakeholders on ways to ensure full compliance across the state. 

"This meeting is crucial in the immunization activities, its therefore important for all the stakeholders to bring out the challenges being encountered during the exercise face them head-on so that polio myelitis would be totally eradicated", he said.

Ali said, since inception, the committee had never had a break in the campaign against the child killer diseases despite years of Boko Haram insurgency in the state.

He commended Bill and Melinda Gate and Dangote foundation for investing heavily in fight against scourge, while calling on staff that have received capacity building on immunization to be patient in the course carrying out their duty.

He also called on the traditional rulers to use all their contacts and ensure that all the children are immunized in their immediate communities.
