The Yobe State Internal Revenue Service (YIRS) is projecting N15 billion as Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for the 2025 year.
The Executive Chairman of the Service, Alhaji Suleiman A. Bakura, revealed this in an interview with newsmen in Damaturu, Yobe State capital.
He said the N15bn target is achievable through automation of the collection system, inter-agency collaboration and rigorous sensitization of the general public to support the government by paying taxes.
Bakura said the state has injected tax collection policies with modern economic realities which comprises the deployment of digital tools, capacity building of the staff to increase its IGR from N12 billion to N15 billion for the 2025 year.

According to him, upon his assumption as chairman of the board in 2024, he has been tackling the leakages and inefficiencies that plagued the YIRS in the past making the N15bn target visible.
He lamented that security challenges particularly Boko Haram insurgents have significantly impacted tax collection in Yobe, by disrupting infrastructure, damaging businesses and ultimately reducing the tax base.
He however called on the residents of the state, businesses and industries to pay their taxes, adding that this will foster a conducive environment for businesses to thrive.
