Gunmen suspected to be members of Boko Haram have killed dozens of students of Federal Government College, Yadi in Yobe in an early morning attack. Police confirmed the attack, which took place early Tuesday.

At least 29 of the students are male, said Yobe state police commissioner, Sanusi Rufai.

The gunmen also burnt down 24 structures in the school, including an administration block.

However, a resident said he counted 39 corpses in the wake of the attack.

“The attackers started the operation around 12:15 unaverted until after 4am, the students were slaughtered and fired with guns. I counted 39 copses,” said the witness.

Daily Trust has gathered the attackers stormed the school premises in six Hilux vans and motorcycles. They then separated the male students and opened fire on them.

“It was too horrible because, some of the students were slaughtered, some were burnt inside the hostel,” a source said.

He said that many school structures were burnt down along with the occupants including the staff quarters.

Residents in Gujba local government area, where the school is located, said three ambulances passed to the school to convey the dead and wounded.

Armed Security operatives were seeing moving to the town, although there was no telecommunication network in the area.

Army spokesman, Captain Eli Lazarus confirmed the attack adding that they are yet to know the number of casualties.
