The Yobe State Hisbah Commission has warned residents against social activities contrary to Sharia principles, particularly those observed during social and festive occasions across the state.

The Commandant of the commission, Dr. Muhammad Yawudi Kale, listed several practices that should be stopped immediately to include close physical interaction between men and women in commercial vehicles and public gatherings, as well as “unlawful private conversations” between members of the opposite sex.

Dr. Kale said the guidelines were aimed at regulating social conduct to strengthen moral discipline, especially in commercial transportation such as Keke NAPEP, motorcycles and buses.

He said, “The Yobe State Hisbah Commission has observed with concern the increasing trend of men and women squeezing together in commercial vehicles in ways that contradict acceptable moral standards.”

He cautioned against “private conversations under the pretext of chatting between men and women, especially in ways that Sharia does not approve,” noting that such conducts violated established religious and moral guidelines.

In addition, the Hisbah warned against reckless movement and disorderly behaviour during celebrations, particularly weddings and religious festivities such as Sallah.

It also condemned the act of running after moving vehicles, hanging on doors or causing disturbances on public roads during such events.
