Authorities of the Karasuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State has enacted a bye-law, which prohibits individuals from bringing cutlasses into the towns and the main markets within the local government area.

Magaji Muhammed, the Director of Personnel Management of the council, confirmed this to newsmen.

He said the law had become necessary due to rising concerns over public safety, harassment, and the potential for violence associated with the indiscriminate carrying of such weapons in public places.

According to him, the bye-law aims to maintain peace, safeguard lives and property, and foster a secure and conducive environment for all residents and visitors.

He added that the local government council had requested that all security agencies take active steps to enforce the bye-law by monitoring entry points to the towns and markets, conducting periodic patrols, and apprehending the violators.

He further said an adequate public sensitisation campaign had been initiated to ensure that all residents are aware of the new regulation.

He solicited the full cooperation of the judiciary to expedite the prosecution of offenders in accordance with the provisions of the bye-law.
