Yobe State government has entered into a strategic partnership with a Chinese firm, Mutual Commitment Company (MCC) Ltd, to establish a three million tonnes per annum limestone-to-cement industrial complex aimed at boosting industrialisation and economic growth in the state.

Governor Mai Mala Buni disclosed this on Saturday in Damaturu while receiving the Group Managing Director of MCC Ltd, Mr. Liu Long, and his management team during a courtesy visit.

Buni said the project would serve as a major catalyst for economic transformation, noting that the state government was committed to providing the enabling environment for the successful take-off of the industrial complex.

He explained that the initiative aligns with the administration’s drive to harness the state’s abundant solid mineral resources for industrial development, employment generation and sustainable economic growth.

According to him, the project will be driven by the Yobe Mining Development Company Limited (YMDCL) and is expected to strengthen local value addition, support infrastructure development and attract more investors into the state.

The governor added that the cement plant would also position Yobe as an emerging hub for cement production in Nigeria, while creating thousands of direct and indirect jobs for residents.

Speaking earlier, the Group Managing Director of MCC Ltd, Mr. Liu Long, commended the state government for what he described as its proactive leadership and favourable investment climate.

He said the company was optimistic that the partnership would achieve mutually beneficial and sustainable development objectives for both parties.

The proposed cement project is regarded as one of the largest industrial investments to be initiated in Yobe State in recent years, with expectations that it would further diversify the state’s economy beyond agriculture and public sector activities.
