The Yobe State Government has announced the temporary closure of three major weekly markets – Katarko, Kukareta and Buni Yadi – as part of renewed efforts to strengthen ongoing counter-insurgency operations across the state.
Brig. Gen. Dahiru Abdulsalam (rtd), Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Governor, in a statement, said the decision was a strategic move aimed at enhancing security and facilitating proactive engagements in the affected communities.
“This temporary measure became necessary to achieve specific objectives that will significantly improve the overall security landscape in the state,” he said.
While acknowledging the disruption the closures may cause, Abdulsalam appealed to the public to cooperate with security agencies in the interest of lasting peace and safety.

“Efforts are underway to expedite operations and reduce the impact of these closures on the livelihoods of our citizens. We appeal for your understanding and support in this collective effort for peace and security,” he stated.
The government assured residents that the markets will be reopened in the coming days once the necessary operational targets have been met.
