The Secretary, National Association of Nigerian students (NANS), Zone C, Comrade Dauda Mohammed Gombe made the plea at the first public Memorial lecture to mark five years after the demise of their late Governor Senator Mamman Ali held at GAAT Hotel, Damaturu.
Dauda said that government needs to encourage parents and students by showing concern and sympathy by paying compensation families of the slain students.  
According to the students, parents of the victims needs to be encouraged by such gestures to assuage their feelings and help them have confidence in the system by resending some of their children back to school.
“The N1m given to the families of security agents killed by the insurgents should equally be extended to parents of victims of schools massacre in the state if not more,” Dauda said.
Dauda regretted the poor turn-out of dignitaries at the events, saying “it is sad that the attendance for this memorial lecture is so poor. It will interest the public to know that we have contacted almost all important personalities in this state including the state governor, House of Representatives and Senators from Yobe, Royal fathers but none has grace the occasion.”
Comrade Dauda further appealed to the state government to reconsider its decision to stop sponsoring undergraduate students abroad for studies.
He also called on the state governor to as a matter of urgency appoint a Special Adviser on Youth and Students Matters.
It would be recalled that late Senator, Mamman Ali died five years ago in a hospital in Florida, United State while serving as the governor of Yobe State.
