The students of Government Secondary School Nguru, Yobe state, have won the first position of the National Junior Engineers, Technicians and scientist (JETs) competition for the year 2017.
The competition, which has representation of successful schools from across the 36 states of the federation, was held between March 13 and 17, 2017 at CSM Grammar Secondary School in Lagos state.
Presenting a golden trophy won by the students to governor Ibrahim Gaidam in Damaturu, the Executive Secretary, Yobe Teaching Service Board, Baba Ali Maidala, said the ‘Motorised Spray Machine` invented, presented and defended by the students earned them the first position.
“Students across 36 states participated in the competition, Yobe contingents; three boys, two girls fabricated and presented `Motorized Spray Machine` and won the first position. Ondo and Imo states became second and third positions respectively,” he said.
Receiving the trophy, Governor Ibrahim Gaidam, who was represented by Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mohammed Taha Daura, said the victory was a testimony to the fact that education had improved despite security challenges in the state.
He encouraged the students to work hard and maintain the tempo, saying the state government would continue supporting them in all their academic pursuit.
