Kanem Trust reported last week that the project was stalled despite the spending of so much money by the two parties leaving residents in persistent lack of water.

Sugum however said that following Yobe’s recent approval of N1 billion for the project, the contractor has indicated interest to resume to site for the completion of the project which was estimated to cost N3 billion.

“The FG had paid its part of the commitment and the state government is also ready to do same. When completed, the project will solve all the water problems in the state capital,” the commissioner said.

Kanem Trust had last week reported that both the state and the federal government had abandoned the project.

In its original master plan, the project will have 30, 8 inch boreholes with an average yield of 10 to 15 litres of water per second.

It will also include the construction of 5,000,000 litres of surface reservoir and the erection of 1,000,000 litres overhead tank.

The project is also expected to have 260 kilometers of reticulation network to all nooks and crannies of the state capital which will ensure sustainable and uninterrupted water supply in Damaturu.
