The Yobe State Government has disclosed that the N22 billion Damaturu flyover and underpass project will be completed before the end of May 2026.

The Commissioner for Works, Umar Wakil Duddaye, disclosed this while briefing journalists during a media tour of the project site in Damaturu.

Represented by the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics in the ministry, Hassan Musa Ibrahim, the commissioner said the project had reached a critical finishing stage, with TRIACTA Construction Company already commencing asphalt laying and drainage works.

He said the flyover and underpass project, initiated under Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration, was progressing steadily towards completion.

According to him, the project is expected to ease traffic congestion, improve road safety and give Damaturu a modern outlook.

He commended the construction company for the quality and pace of work, describing the project as one of the major infrastructural transformations in the state capital.

“The project was awarded in phases. The flyover contract was handed over to the company on February 21, 2025, with a completion period of one year.

“Later in October 2025, there was an extension involving the expansion of the main road from 530 motor park to the 27 August Stadium, covering about 6.6 kilometres on both sides, including green areas,” he said.

He added that the total contract sum stood at N22 billion, noting that the government had already paid 50 per cent mobilisation and subsequent payments based on certified work done.

“We are hoping to pay the final certificate by the end of this month. As you heard from the contractor, the project will be completed by the end of this month,” he added.

Speaking during the tour, the Yobe State Area Manager of TRIACTA Construction Company, Mr Fadi Abiad, said the project had reached 96 per cent completion.
